Ban for 125mph driver

A MOTORIST clocked doing 125mph on a Cumbrian road has been banned from driving.

Adam William Tinkler, 21, was behind the wheel of an Audi when he was caught by Cumbria Safety Cameras speeding at 55mph over the 70mph limit on the A66 near Appleby on January 31 this year.

Carlisle Magistrates' Court heard today that Tinkler was so astonished by the speed recorded by police that he initially did not believe it.

Tinkler, of Sceugh Dyke House, Calthwaite, was given a 56-day driving ban by the court after he admitted a charge of speeding.

Magistrates also handed him a £400 fine and ordered him to pay £800 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

The court heard Tinkler already had three points on his licence for using a mobile phone while driving in August, 2014.
